L&Y "Tin Tab" Brake Van Transfers (pre-order 28/02/25)

L&Y "Tin Tab" Brake Van Transfers (pre-order 28/02/25)

This is a pre-order shipping from 28 February 2025. Any order containing this item will not be shipped until that date.

Sets of waterslide transfers for L&Y Diagram 21 "Tin Tab" brake vans, with our separate kit available for purchase here. The majority of markings are also applicable to other L&Y brake van designs, but the pre-selected numbers in N are solely for D21 brake vans.

These transfers have been split into two separate sheets:

  • Markings and Numbers. Completes one brake van in OO and two brake vans in N.
  • Allocations, containing a selection of 21 L&Y yard allocations and 8 names of L&Y goods guards

In OO, the Markings and Numbers sheet contains the individual numerals for tare weight and running/reporting numbers. In N, the numerals have been pre-arranged.

The markings used by the L&Y varied over time. We have identified the following arrangements:

  • 1880s onwards: two illiterate symbols on each side. BRAKE / FIRE EXT.R / GUARD / [F. LASTNAME] / [ALLOCATED YARD] painted to the right of the door. Number plate and tare weight on the solebar.
  • By 1901: Wording to the right of the door simplified to just the allocated yard.
  • 1903: Standard "L Y" initials replace the illiterate symbols.
  • By 1910: Painted yard allocations are replaced by a cast iron plate to the left of the door.
  • August 1915: Combined running and reporting number painted in the top right.

The 21 yard allocations included are: Accrington, Blackburn, Blackpool Central, Blackpool T.R., Bolton, Bury, Fleetwood, Goole, Horwich, Liverpool, Lostock Hall, Low Moor, Miles Platting, Mirfield, Mumps, Normanton, Rose Grove, Salford, Sowerby Bridge, Wakefield, Wigan.

In N, the five selected Dia. 21 reporting numbers are 2741, 18233 (Salford), 21660, 23162, and 26325.

Please note that our models are supplied unpainted, and the colour of the model may differ from the photographed examples.
