Milk churns scale model (set of 12)

Milk churns scale model (set of 12)

A set of 12 scale model milk churns. These were commonly used across the UK rail network to transport milk to large cities between the mid-19th and mid-20th century.

Milk churns were built to a standard size for ease of transport. Until the 1930s, the conical 17-gallon design was used, after which it was superseded by the smaller cylindrical 10-gallon design. Churns were built from galvanised iron and were left unpainted.

Both designs could be stacked for transport, although this was seemingly only done when necessary, due to the weight and size of the churns (particularly when loaded. Manual handling of the churns was done by leaning them over and rolling them on their bottom rim, with churns only being lifted when necessary.

The model comes as a set of 12 churns of either the 17 gallon or 10 gallon design arranged on a sprue. O, OO, TT120 and N gauge models available.

Please note that our models are supplied unpainted, and the colour of the model may differ from the photographed examples.

Information for painting, gluing and working with our models can be found here.
